Abstract

Balanites aegyptiaca, commonly known as the desert date or soapberry tree, has been traditionally used for various medicinal purposes. Balanites aegyptiaca is a widespread African medicinal plant of interest, containing several cytotoxic and cytostatic compounds. This review explores the scientific evidence regarding the potential anticancer properties of Balanites aegyptiaca. We delve into the phytochemical composition of the plant, highlighting compounds such assaponins, flavonoids, and alkaloids known for their anti-cancer activities. The the studies described here attempted to further characterize the cancer activities Current studies have also shown that it is antiproliferative by inducing apoptotic cell death we discuss the mechanisms behind these effects, including the modulation of key signaling pathways.
